BE UNIFIED THROUGH MUSIC

Music integrate our differences in one spirit

Music is the art of combining vocal or instrumental sounds or both to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion. In reality check music does not have any concrete meaning it has unique meaning for different people. Yet as South African’s we are aware of the role and impact music played in our country. Music has amalgamated us as one nation. It’s a platform that unite people in times of difficulty it frees one’s mind and soul.

That's one of the reason there is a show call Jam Jam Sandwich where different market segments of South African music industry are put together to collaborate on writing a new song despite their contrasting musical styles. This show proves enough on how music can play a role in our lives. I found this show interesting because in most cases they put together musicians from Afrikaner genre and African genre. It’s so interesting on how these musicians come together with the purpose of collaborating one song. Regardless of their differences.
In addition music brings people from different tribes together it permits us to experience and share same emotions. We are the same in heart and spirit. Nevertheless of our nationality, ethnic, the expression of our love and our faith music proves we are the same.

Hope you agree about my peace above, and I want your opinion based on how you think and define music.

What I want to share with you in this blog is the fact on how music genre is moving and adopted from generation to generation during 1990s till today. But before I do that I need to highlight different kind of genres we have in South Africa.
Below I want to mention a few of musical genres we have in South Africa. Probably that you were not aware of or did not even knew they existed. We have Kwela-kwela, Marabi, Mbube, Isicathamiya, Gumbout, Makwaya, Mbaqanga, Toyi toyi and Kwaito. These are South African Musical Genres. However they played a crucial and major role in fighting for apartheid regime because during the apartheid era pupils or natives were not granted freedom of speech but through music they expressed themselves.
In this blog I want to emphasise and highlight on the three types of genres which are Kwaito, House music and Hip hop. These genres had taken our generation by storm from 1990s till to date. Kwaito music invented the music industry during 1990s. During that era Kwaito was making waves mentioning groups such as Trompies, Bongo Maffin and Boom Shaka. Then House music invented which seems like, the majority of our generation listen to at the moment. I think House music is about spiritual feeling that exploits the body and the mind to the lovers of House music.
Still House music is gradually fading hence it invented and was popular in 2000 till today. Yet Hip hop music is becoming more and more popular nowadays. It is taking the target audience especially female and males living in urban area by storm. Nevertheless you are being classified as cool and stylish if you are the fan. In addition all these genres and their shift they demonstrate that nothing last for eternity but music amend with time and generation.

What is your opinion  based to the information above?
